Update on the ill-one

Well, Douglas has been a little too high on Vicodin to be posting lately, so I'll give you the update. First, here's a shot of him in the ER on Sunday, drinking his stuff for the CT Scan. I made him smile, he wasn't having as much fun as it looks like.
So we visited the General Surgeon on Monday morning, and she agreed that Douglas does not need surgery. Basically, Epiploic Appendigitis is when a piece of fatty tissue along the outside of the colon gets twisted (there's no way to know why it happens) and the blood supply is cut off causing inflammation and a lot of pain. So basically, we treat the symptoms and wait for the twisted tissue to actually die. Then it just sort of sits there and doesn't do any harm and stops hurting. No way to know exactly how long that process will take, but until it's done, he's on antibiotics for the inflammation and Vicodin for the pain. We go back Wednesday morning to make sure his white-cell count isn't up and that he's progressing in the way the doctor would like.

So in other family news, Kinsey tried a sippy cup for the first time today. I can't say she was thrilled about it. She hasn't quite grasped the concept that it she drinks something from it, she's putting it in her mouth like she does with everything else and just kind of gnawing on it. But watching her grab it and move it around was pretty cute.

Kinsey is loving having her Daddy home all day. He has to be a little careful during playtime to keep her off of his stomach as her chubby bottom isn't so good sitting on the colon! Her new favorite trick is flying.

Can we talk Reality TV for a moment? New show came on tonight - Simon Cowell's "Celebrity Duets" - wow! Some of those people can't sing AT ALL and surprisingly enough, Alfonso Ribeiro (sp?) and Hal Sparks were great! It was so nice to see Michael Bolton again (minus the mullet of course!). If you missed it, I think they are doing an encore of it later this week on Fox and going foward I think it's going to be on Thursdays.
