She's a big girl now!
Well, in case you didn't know, Kinsey is a big girl. This term has become very important in our house since last week. Last Sunday Mommy and Daddy decided that we were tired of her yelling for us to come retrieve pacifiers from behind the headboard and sick of the dead-animal-like morning breath from all of the pacifier sucking, so we told Kinsey that big girls don't use paci's and we were going to be throwing hers away. We talked about it for about a day and a half and she was totally on board. Here she is throwing them away...
and here they are in the trash...
and here she is showing how she's going to bed for the first time without a paci...
and here's the bedtime story with Daddy...
What I don't have pictures of is the three days of miserable bed- and nap-times that followed :). The reality of falling asleep without paci's wasn't nearly as exciting apparently as talking about it and preparing for it. For 2 1/2 years, every sleep time started with a faithful paci in the mouth, so it was a tough transition out of it. There were many tears and many talks over the next 3 days, but finally she just started going to bed without fussing about it. We had lots of talks about being a big girl and what that means and the cool things big girls can do that babies can't. So now the paci ritual has been replaced with a new ritual: "Mommy can we talk about big girl stuff?" She loves me to ask her "do you sleep in a baby bed?" "do you drink from a baby bottle?" "do you use paci's to go to sleep?" and she laughs at each one and says "noooooo" and then we say "do you have a big girl room and a big girl bed?" "can you do fun things like eat pizza and ice cream and lollipops?" "why can you do those things?" and she says (really loudly) "cuz i'm a BIG girl!"
so i have some cute pictures from this weekend but our camera has decided to die so it will be a little bit until i can get them and post them. have a great week everyone!

Congratulations Kinsey! We went through H*ll with Emma and getting rid of them, so I feel your pain!
Wish me luck - we're breaking Molly of her thumb starting next week (we're counting down to it now!)
Darin,
great blog! Thanks for stopping by mine, too.
I don't envy anyone having to take a paci away! We got lucky with Aron-he spit his out at 8 months, never to take it again! Now, he nursed unitl 18 months, but that's a whole other story.....

Yeah for big girl Kinsey! She is so funny and clever with her words. I can just imagine her saying everything you wrote!
